Maca is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant native to the Andes of Peru , where it is cultivated for its edible hypocotyl. There are different types of maca: red, black or yellow.
Yellow maca
Our yellow maca is the most popular variety for its sweeter flavor than red or black. In fertile people of both sexes, it increases libido and fertility, it has stimulating effects and improves state of mind.
This type of maca is especially beneficial for women, especially during menopause because, although it is favorable for men, black or red root maca has more potent properties for male sexuality. All varieties of maca have a contribution to human health
Maca can be consumed by children, youth, adults and the elderly. It is known to be an adaptogen , which means that it works in the body regardless of age or gender.
Origin
Maca (Lepidium Peruvianum) is a tuberous root cultivated in the Andes since the time of the Incas between 3,800 and 4,500 meters above sea level.
It is resistant to the climatological factors typical of the Andean highlands which are negative for other crops: frost, hail and snowfall.
This root was domesticated and used as a staple food by the Pumpush of Junín, a pre-Inca culture that lived on the shores of Lake Chinchaycocha in the 700s BC.
During the Inca period, it not only became the food of the nobles (high society), but also served as an offering to the gods along with corn and potatoes.
