Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is a climbing plant of the Sapindáceas family and native to the Amazon . It flowers in a cluster and each fruit is a red capsule containing a single seed, small in size and surrounded by a red aril.

Origin
Guarana plays an important role in the culture of Brazilian Tupi Guaraní. The name guaraná is a derivative of the word "wara'ná" which in tupí-guaraní means "fruit like the eyes of the people" . These tribes believe that the fruit is magical for the treatment of diseases of the intestines and a means of regaining strength. They also believe in the myth of the "divine child", who was killed by a serpent and his eyes gave life to this plant.
